Google is indexing 12,000 spam pages built on public Gemini Notebooks
Black hat operators are publishing NotebookLM pages on peptides, porn and coupon codes, and Google is ranking them.
Gagan Ghotra flagged on X this weekend that public NotebookLM pages are being used as a parasite SEO surface, with Google indexing the results. Glenn Gabe reshared the finding on 21 September. Barry Schwartz wrote it up at Search Engine Roundtable on 22 September, putting the current index count at over 12,000 pages. Charles Floate spotted the tactic first.
The content covers sex toys, porn, peptides, discount codes and app promotions. Gabe expects Google to clear the pages soon. The prompts that generated the notebooks are visible on the public pages themselves.
We think the pattern here matters more than the specific surface. Any Google product that publishes user-generated pages on a Google domain inherits parasite SEO attempts within days of launch. NotebookLM is the current instance. The host domain carries trust the spammer does not have to earn, and the AI-generated body gives cover that a thin affiliate page would not.
